Abstract: The possible application of X-ray fluorescence analysis to the determination of cerium and titanium in cerium titanates was investigated. Results of theoretical and experimental work show that, owing to the interelemental excitation, a quantitative analysis of the sintered samples over a wide concentration range is possible only when the borax flux method is used. For this reason major emphasis was given to the preparation of sound and stable molten samples. For this purpose a special mold was developed. The experimental results are discussed in terms of error-analysis with special emphasis on the influence of statistical and calibration errors in the goniometer.
